Monsters & Mysteries Month Minds For Moving Moai

As Halloween approaches this year WitchWhats is celebrating October as Monsters & Mysteries Month! On the WW Facebook Page I'll be sharing videos and photos about strange topics to ponder and spooky finds. New creepy art work is being added into my Etsy shop this month, including several monstrous ACEO to collect! Be sure to have a look because most are one-of-a-kind and once sold will be gone.
Now, on to the first mysterious topic this month...

Minds For Moving Moai
Certainly you've heard about the strange giant heads known as "moai" on an isolated island in the Pacific, but no one seemed certain as to how ancient people moved such heavy chunks of rock... except, that is, for the people. Word-of-mouth from the islanders has it that the statues simply walked into place! This has raised many eyebrows and theories over the years including -- take a guess -- space alien technology. How do you think the mysterious moai statues of Easter Island moved? Maybe they walked indeed!?
Take a look at this video which examines a massive moment of modern moai motion! Perhaps, this mystery is solved at last.

Emerald Phallus Egyptian Geb Symbol

Geb & Nut: “Papyris of Tamenill,” ca. 1000 B.C.E
The ancient Egyptian god of the Earth was Geb, one of nine gods that were said to have been created in the beginning of all. He was also the god of vegetative growth, so sometimes is depicted as a nude man with green skin. Geb was the husband of Nut the Sky Goddess, for whom His desire was so great that at first the pair was constantly engaged in sex. Eventually they had to be separated by Shu the God of air. Because this excited tension between the Earth and the Sky always exists Geb is often shown as a man reclining, with his phallus still pointed towards Nut. As a symbol of sacred Male Mysteries Geb is portrayed within the Emerald Phallus, a symbol of "male beauty incarnate".

Mini hand carved emerald penis.
I've carved a genuine emerald phallus from raw rough emerald stone as a symbolic representation of sacred male genitalia; I honor the sacred Masculine as well as the sacred Feminine. Working with picks and files I formed the chunk of stone into a phallic symbol of the Egyptian God Geb, in the natural greens of emerald.

This piece lays flat on its own sparkle black matrix stone, (as shown in photos of the reverse side), and is currently available as shown. It could be enjoyed as a symbol for the God while resting on a Pagan altar as is, or it could be set by a metal artist into unique erotic spiritual jewelry. This hand sculpted emerald could easily be incorporated into many different styles of design. This is a very unique one-of-a-kind item.

The photographs are all different perspectives of the same item. The coin is shown for size comparrison.

Notes On Knots

My mind is in knots today. No, I'm not confused, but am contemplating knot or cord magick. Knots can be a powerful resource to use for magick and have probably been in use since humans first gained the ability to tie a blade of grass. The turn-of-phrase to have one's "mind in knots" hearkens to the later use of knots as a spell devise to cause confusion to another person or send them the "Evil Eye", though knots are useful in nearly all types of spells. Throughout the centuries people have used knots to help fulfill all variety of magickal needs and we today can also utilize this powerful tool.

But how does one go about incorporating knot magick into a personal spell? If you're not already familiar with the basics of spellworking it would be advisable to first consult some of the many books available on the subject before trying your hand at knot magick. Though it's not vital, it is fun and magickally helpful to use color correspondences that match your goal or need as well as choosing a material with properties that match with what you want to achieve.

Magick knots chant
The graphic included with this post illustrates a variation of the chant written by Silver RavenWolf along with the positions in which knots should be tied on your cord or string (click image to enlarge). The entire chant can be used in a spell, but I've personally had success with tying only a certain number for certain needs such as three knots along with chanting "By knot of three, so mote it be" in spellwork, especially where the number has important correspondences to the overall goal of the spell. In such cases I'll often store the cord in a spell box to be removed on the nights of the next three Full Moon if three knots were tied and repeat the numeric chanting while visualizing my goal. You can use any of the individual number chants with knots to fit your needs.

* Conjure This

Here's something to try... conjure up your own Pagan prayer cord! Prayer cords can be used for general prayer, meditation, or with the focused intent of chanting words to a spell at each knot. The number of knots you tie depends upon the purpose of your cord, but for general mediation and prayer I personally tie thirteen.
Buy or find a special strand of leather, ribbon, or pretty plump satin cord to use. Most decorative satin cording is somewhat thick, so you'll need 48" to tie thirteen knots 2" apart. The first and last knots should be 2" from the ends. When your cord is finished it can be kept by the bed side, stored in a spell box, or even carried in a bag.

Knot For Dreamcatchers

There are probably as many dreamcatchers as there are dreams theses days. While browsing online I noticed that in photographs of dreamcatchers sections of the webbing area are tied together as in macrame rather than looped as in weaving. It caught my eye because I was taught that knots should not be used to weave a dreamcatcher web lest the knot trap a spirit and bind it or an unwanted dream to the sleeper. Instead of tying the weaving it should be looped over itself. Looping holds the web together by natural tension; After all, a dreamcatcher is supposed to represent a spider web, and spiders don't tie knots. The issued tied up my attention, so I thought that this would be an appropriate place to share my view. Whether or not you choose to knot may simply be a matter of personal preference.
                                            ~

Thank you for taking the time to read my notes on knots. I hope you enjoyed yourself and found some helpful information. Click the link to my store to check the availability of handmade dreamcatchers and other ritual tools that I've made.
Brightest of blessings to you!

News of the New Year

Happy new year to you! It's being a very happy start to 2015 for Witch Whats with an increase in activity overall. On the Facebook Page we celebrated peaking 500 Likes at the first of the month! Now it's looking as if the page will cross 600 before the end of January! I want to issue an official thanks to all my fans and followers! I will endeavor to share even more interesting and educational witchy what-knots the rest of this year along with more unique Witch Whats products.

Speaking of products... Witch Whats is enjoying a growing space at the popular shopping site Etsy. Wands, cups, pentacles, bowls, amulets and other magickal items are available in the store section titled "Witch Whats". All of the items are either made made or hand selected by me personally.

In the realm of my personal life I am enjoying the company of a familiar spirit. While fostering a litter of kittens recently one little guy expressed a special ability to tap into my heart chakra. I encouraged his love and was happy that his future owner was going to get such a sweet baby. But when the day came for him to leave I felt as if my heart had been ripped out as he went out the door! I called my husband who said that he'd never seen a cat act like this guy did with me and that there was a special bond I would be a fool to let go. I immediately called the adoption organization that had taken him! With tears in my eyes I welcomed him home after he came out of surgery.

Little Clawdius is now my boy and he's expressed a great interest in energy work of all sorts! He loves on me as if I'm cat nip and shows up out of nowhere the moment that I raise energy for magick or healing. He's also keen to Earth energy changes and Solar activity -- a very sensitive kitty for a sensitive gal! Right now everything is play to him so I don't expect him to keep his paws to himself at the altar but he does treat magickal tools with respect while exploring them. As he matures I'll increase the level of seriousness when we're in Circle together. He's proven time and again that he can handle and perhaps even transmute my high-key energy so in addition to having a huge heart connection we will likely be able to do some good work together in the future!

The following chant may be used as an invocation, meditation, or during a simple (uncomplicated) communion. The sacred Four Directions are called upon here as well as the main different aspects of the Gods.

Earth, Air, Fire, Water, North, East, South, West, Brother, Lover, Father, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Earth, Air, Fire, Water, North, East, South, West, Brother, Lover, Father, Mother, Maiden, Crone...

Continue the pattern, pausing to breathe where needed, and repeat as necessary to suit you needs.
